5 Healthy Habits To Aid Better Sleep — Transform Your Night Routine
1. Assess your sleeping situation. Is your pillow too tall? Too soft? Do you need a better blanket or bed sheets? A main struggle for me is that I tend to overthink a lot at night. My mind wonders to the most random thoughts. So, I decided to invest in some quality products. I went on Amazon and purchased a weighted blanket, silk sheets, and a weighted eye mask. Personally, I can only sleep when the entire room is pitch black so the eye mask was a necessity.
2. Work out 1–2 hours before bed. High intensity work outs can wear out your body, likely, making you fall asleep faster. During sleep, your body rebuilds torn tissues and so your body will naturally want to rest.
3. Eat healthy foods, and don’t eat too close to bed time. Healthy foods can aid in better sleep. It’s easier on the body to digest and so you’ll have a better night sleep if your body isn’t constantly working to break down all the processed foods you just ate.
4. Journal or start a bullet journal. Journaling has always been a big part of my daily routine. It’s a space for me to pour out all my random thoughts and feelings. Journaling things you are grateful for can really change your attitude, and put your mind at ease. I’ve also found it helps me not over think as much when I’m trying to sleep since my thoughts have already been processed.
5. Cut out alcohol. This seems like a no brainer but drinking alcohol affects your heart rate. It causes your heart to beat faster and therefore, your body is less likely to relax and fall asleep.
These are my 5 tips you can implement into your nightly routine which will hopefully help you get better asleep!
